Ili, Nalati Grassland by Jaymar Alvaran
"I took this through the window of a moving bus across the vast Nalati grassland, near the town of Ili in Xinjiang, China. We were racing to reach the nearest peak for sunset, to capture the best view."

lazinoch asked: I feel like I was there with you! LOL sorry we couldn't make it again, this week is going to kill me but very glad that you had lots of fun!!
I did that so I could relive it if/when I ever go back and read it LOL
No worries, bro! Good luck with everything!
I just got home from my Vegas trip for my birthday and omg it was a weekend to remember (or at least reminisce about in the future because I don’t exactly remember everything lol).
First of all, on the night before leaving for Vegas, my girlfriend came over and spent the night at my place, which is a first because of our “long distance” relationship and her strict parents (who don’t even know about me btw). So, needless to say, this was a special night for us.
The next day we lay in bed all morning, she got some studying done for her exam that’s on Monday, and her, my family, and I had dinner at Porto’s before driving out to Vegas. In the car ride(s), and even during down time in our hotel room in Vegas, she crammed in some study time to make up for the time that she’d be partying with me and I extremely appreciate that. Once we got to our two-room suite in Planet Hollywood that we got hooked up with, we drank, got buzzed, talked, laughed, poured our hearts out, and cried (happy tears). Then, at around maybe 2am, the girls and I walked the strip to wherever just to explore and drink and dance. Kinda awkward when I saw my “cool mom” dancing with random guys, but I tried to disregard that and still have a good time lol.
On Saturday we had lunch at a Filipino/American fusion restaurant called BabyStacks Cafe. It was crazy good and I definitely want to go there again the next time I’m in Vegas so that I could try like everything on the menu. A few hours later, after hour food coma nap, my cousins from San Francisco finally arrived, and that’s when the party got started!
First, we hit up Fat Tuesdays to drink while we shopped at the mall downstairs from our hotel room. It’s funny how I was able to get pants, a bowtie, and suspenders to wear that night, but I completely forgot that I needed casual dress shoes. So after I got dressed that night and I started putting on my Nike running shoes, Philip called me out, we rushed downstairs to H&M right away, and I was luckily able to cop the last pair that happened to be in my size.
A handful (or more) of shots later, we all walked across the street to Marquee where we got hooked up with a nice outside table and a bottle. By the time we got there I was already pretty drunk, so as soon as I started sipping on that Black Label I was gooooone. All I remember from the rest of that night is spilling my grilfriend’s drink on her feet, getting a shitload of pictures taken, bits and pieces of me dancing, aaaand the few moments before going to bed heh… Apparently, I kept yelling “I’M DONE! I’M DRUNK!” as I was sipping on my drink in the club, I kept dozing off on the couch, I desperately wanted pizza and was unable to get any, I passed out on my girlfriend’s lap up in the hotel room, and the two shortest people there (my girlfriend and my mom) carried me to bed lol.
Today, we recovered by hitting up a buffet and stuffing ourselves full of food for a good 3 hours. I then played a few rounds of slot machine games, but quickly discovered I’m not into it. We then said our thank yous and goodbyes and my family, my girlfriend, and I headed back home.
Before my girlfriend left my house tonight to drive back to her house, I finally used the L word with her, which is a word I have trouble using all the time, but I just feel so emotionally connected to her and care for her so much and she is a big part of my life and makes me so happy and it just feels right to say to her <3
Anyway, overall, this weekend in Vegas was awesome as it was my first time doing Vegas the right way. Originally, I was slightly bummed that my friends weren’t able to come through, but I am so fortunate to have such an awesome family and girlfriend who all contributed to make this weekend especially fun and memorable :D
As I was driving into work today, my boss texted and rescheduled on me. However, instead of turning around and heading back home to do absolutely nothing, I decided to make the best of it.
I finally got around to getting a library card for the West Hollywood Library, which is something I’ve been wanting to do ever since my boss had me picking up books for him there. I liked this library because it is very modern and seems like it would be a cool place to chill with its window walls providing lots of natural light and a decent view overlooking the city. Unfortunately, I found their selection of books to be very poor and limited, which is quite the bummer. I’d probably only come here to edit photos, or study (whenever I actually get something that I need to study lol).
On the bright side, I came across a photography book that really grabbed my attention. It was all about the emergence of a new style of photography called “engaging photography”, currently known as photojournalism. The book outlined examples from war to street photography to photo stories.
I feel like I gained a new perspective on how to see/capture the world and I’m inspired to take more photographs - whether it simply be shooting street photography, or creating my own photo stories. I wish I was able to take that photojournalism class more seriously instead of half-assing it and having to drop it :/ but I guess I could still shoot stuff on my own will. The thing is, will I be motivated to overcome my laziness? Haha, we shall see.
Wow, I just noticed that I blog about the stupidest shit. I almost never actually write about the significant parts of my life LOL like, I just had an awesome surprise birthday dinner last night! But, I guess pictures are worth a thousand words. I just need people to send me the pictures they take cause my phone can’t shoot for shit haha
